কাউফল একধরনের অপ্রচলিত টক স্বাদের ফল। আমাদের গ্রামবাংলায় এটা বিভিন্ন নামে ডাকে। যেমন: কাউয়া, কাগলিচু, তাহগালা, ক্যাফল, কাউগোলা, পাঁচদানা ইত্যাদি। এর গাছ মাঝারি আকৃতির, এর পাতা ও ডালপালা কম, ওপরের দিকে ঝোপালো হয়ে ওঠে। সাধারণত বাড়ির জঙ্গলে এই গাছ দেখা যায়। ফল কাঁচা অবস্থায় সবুজ ও পাকলে কমলা বা হলুদ হয়। ফলের ভেতর চার-পাঁচটি দানা থাকে, যার কারণে অনেকেই এটাকে পাঁচদানা ফলও বলে থাকে। বাংলাদেশ, ভারত, মালয়েশিয়া, দক্ষিণ চীন, লাওস, কম্বোডিয়া, ভিয়েতনাম ইত্যাদি দেশে কাউগাছ দেখা যায়। ফল হিসেবে সরাসরি খাওয়া ছাড়াও এই ফল বেশি ক্ষেত্রে জ্যাম তৈরি করা হয়।
কাউফলের পুষ্টিগুণ

কাউফলের উপকারিতা
মাড়ির সংক্রমণ রোধে: যাঁদের মাড়িতে গুরুতর সংক্রমণ রয়েছে, তাঁদের জন্য কাউফল হতে পারে একটি ভালো পথ্য, মৌসুমি ফলটি নিয়মিত খেলে মাড়ির সংক্রমণ ভালো হয়ে যায়, মাড়ি মজবুত করে।
